GO2 for Lung Cancer proudly joins the Association of Oncology Social Work (AOSW) to present the Lung Cancer Social Worker of the Year Award for 2021.

This award recognizes social workers who aid and support the lung cancer community and is bestowed annually at the AOSW annual meeting. This year, we are pleased to announce Sarah Bechard, LMSW the 2021 award recipient.

Ms. Bechard works at the University of Kansas Cancer Center in Overland Park, KS. Within her role as a social worker, she completes psychosocial assessments, provides emotional support to patients and their families, facilitates support groups, assists with financial needs, completes referrals, and works with a multidisciplinary team to locate resources locally and nationally.

Within her role at the University of Kansas Cancer Center, she also collaborated with a patient to start a lung cancer support group together called Living!!! With Lung Cancer Support Group. While co-facilitating this group, Sarah sought out GO2 for Lung Cancer as a resource and worked with LungMATCH to help provide her group with new updates in lung cancer treatment. Her dedication was noticed by group members, colleagues, and the GO2 for Lung Cancer. It is with great pride, that we have honor Sarah Bechard in her work with the lung cancer community.
