Statement on the Braidwood Management Inc. v. Kennedy ruling

We received good news today. In a 6–3 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) preventive services mandate in Braidwood Management Inc. v. Kennedy. The ruling confirms that preventive services recommended by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF)—including lung cancer screening—must continue to be covered by most insurance plans at no cost to patients.

This is a significant win for patients, providers, and public health. When lung cancer is caught early, survival rates improve dramatically.

However, while this ruling protects access for now, it also places final oversight authority with the Secretary of Health and Human Services. That means future decisions about what is or isn’t covered may shift depending on administrative leadership or policy priorities. GO2 for Lung Cancer will closely monitor any developments that could impact access to these life-saving services.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring lung cancer screening is protected, accessible, and prioritized. We will continue to work alongside our partners in the health community to keep our voice strong and unified.
