January 1, 1970
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced that it is partnering with the nonprofit GO2 for Lung Cancer to improve care and outcomes for Veterans by increasing early detection and treatment of lung cancer.VA and GO2 for Lung Cancer will work collaboratively to increase awareness of the importance of lung cancer screening for Veterans at high risk of lung cancer and to identify resources, programs, and support.“Public-private partnerships like this one are crucial to providing the highest level of care to our nation’s Veterans,” said VA Secretary Robert Wilkie. “This partnership will enhance the array of services available through VA and expand public awareness about Veteran-specific conditions that place Veterans at greater risk for lung cancer.”In addition to increasing access to lung cancer screening through its national network of more than 700 screening centers of excellence, GO2 for Lung Cancer will provide VA staff with resources for best practice screening implementation, professional development training, patient education campaigns, and research programs. VA will help educate staff at GO2 for Lung Cancer screening centers about Veteran-specific health factors related to lung cancer risk, prevention, and response to treatment; share information about applying for VA health care and benefits; and provide access to suicide prevention resources to raise awareness for early identification and referral.“We have been working with VA for many years to reach this important milestone. We could not be more honored and privileged to be working with VA leadership to help bring life-saving benefits and quality care to our Veterans who are at higher risk for lung cancer than the civilian population,” said Laurie Fenton Ambrose, co-founder, president, and CEO of GO2 for Lung Cancer.GO2 for Lung Cancer is the result of a 2019 merger between the two of the most effective and influential nonprofit organizations serving the lung cancer community over the past 25 years, Lung Cancer Alliance and the Bonnie J.
