GO2 for Lung Cancer was founded by and for lung cancer patients and survivors. We incorporate the needs and experiences of the lung cancer community into every program we offer and every decision we make. Helping us understand the varied and evolving needs of this community is our National Ambassador Council (NAC) – a group of trusted and engaged volunteer advocates who represent a variety of experiences with lung cancer.

The NAC was founded in April 2019 and is currently made up of 11 members who are lung cancer patients, survivors and caregivers/loved ones. They bring to the council their own experiences with lung cancer but also strive to represent needs and experiences beyond their own. NAC is GO2’s first stop for important patient perspectives to provide us direction, feedback and help amplify our efforts to reach the most people possible.

NAC members also work closely with GO2 staff and other community partners to expand our program reach and develop new resources. They also represent GO2 and the lung cancer patient community in various forums in medical, political and industry settings.

Currently, NAC members are serving the lung cancer community in a wide variety of ways. They act as patient reviewers for the Department of Defense’s Lung Cancer Research Program; serve on research advisory boards; help GO2 apply for new foundation grants; share their lung cancer experiences with GO2’s industry and community partners; provide support and camaraderie for other patients as Phone Buddies and in online support forums; advocate for more research funding; review patient educational materials and much, much more!

Evy Schiffman, member of GO2’s National Ambassador Council

NAC member Evy Schiffman enjoys participating on NAC as a way to make an impact in the fight against lung cancer which affected her life first as a caregiver to her husband, Neil (who passed away from stage 4 lung cancer) and then as a survivor of stage 1 lung cancer. These experiences have given Evy the unique ability to communicate with others affected by the disease in multiple roles. Her personal story demonstrates the importance of early detection through screening, the importance of access to clinical trials and the vital need for increased research funding.

“As a NAC volunteer,” Evy says, “I am one voice in league with many other patients/survivors that form the greater GO2 community, both nationally and internationally. Together, as volunteers, we are advocating, educating and taking actions ultimately to save lives and provide hope to those living the world’s #1 cancer killer annually.”

GO2 is grateful to each member of the National Ambassador Council and to all our ambassadors and volunteers for the time, talent and passion they bring to all their work with GO2 for Lung Cancer.
