We are excited to share that the House of Representatives has passed the DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE APPROPRIATIONS BILL that retains the full allocation of $20 million for the Lung Cancer Research Program (LCRP).
Also included in the bill, is “Report Language” to authorize the CDC to promote lung cancer screening awareness as part of its tobacco prevention and control activities—a GO2 for Lung Cancer key priority.
We send a huge thank you to the many champions that helped secure this funding: the co-chairmen of the Lung Cancer Caucus, Congressmen Brendan Boyle (D-PA) and John Rutherford (R-FL); all caucus members; and especially our wonderful community of advocates.
What’s next!
The next step in the legislative process will be for the Senate Defense Subcommittee and Full Committee to mark up or release its FY21 funding bill. When approved by both the House and the Senate, the bills will then be sent to the President for his signature. Anticipated timing is this fall or after the November election.
Your voice was powerful!
Our community has made a difference. We will continue to monitor the progress on Capitol Hill and rally your support when the time is right.
Whatever it takes. Whatever the need. We get it done together.
