Shine a Light on Lung Cancer is the largest coordinated lung cancer awareness program in the United States. Hosted by healthcare facilities during Lung Cancer Awareness Month (November), Shine a Light on Lung Cancer educates, connects, and celebrates our community while raising awareness about the disease. In light of the pandemic, Shine a Light on Lung Cancer has pivoted from traditional, in-person events, to Making the Shine A Light Promise, meaning you can raise awareness as safely as possible to suit the needs of your community.

If you are an individual interested in joining a Shine A Light near you, please check out our Shine A Light events page. You can also attend ANY virtual Shine A Light too! Want to get your healthcare team involved? Please share this information with them!

If you are a healthcare provider, here are a few ways you can Shine A Light on Lung Cancer this November.

  1. In-Person or Virtual Shine A Light Event
We’re making it easy to host an in-person or virtual Shine a Light event with our pre-made agenda. With opportunities for patients and caregivers to share their experiences, and for you to share more about your healthcare facility, hosting a Shine A Light is a great way to bring the community together. In-person events can be held outdoors too!
  2. Virtual Yoga
Susan Smedley, lung cancer survivor and GO2 for Lung Cancer’s Manager of Grassroots & Endurance Events is also a Yoga for Cancer certified instructor. She created a 20-minute yoga video to Shine a Light on Lung Cancer that you can share via Zoom or on social media.
  3. Host an Educational Table
COVID-19 has completely changed the landscape in which we live and work. Depending on circumstances in your local area, hosting an educational table in your facility for people to come and learn at their leisure is a wonderful way to keep your distance while still shining a light on lung cancer.
  4. Creative Choice
Is there something you have wanted to do to in your community to raise awareness? Try “Wear White Wednesday” with your colleagues, send a special letter to your lung cancer community, or develop an honor wall at your healthcare facility. The possibilities are endless.

Last year 141 facilities hosted an event in all 50 states. This year, help us grow our reach and shine an even brighter light on lung cancer by hosting an event or sharing it with your local healthcare facility!
