I found out I had lung cancer as I was driving my car to the Women’s March in Washington DC after the 2016 election. At the time, I remember asking the Universe to allow me to live long enough to vote again.

I’ve found strength in my family and friends and my commitment to live my life and stay proactive. I have also tried to be a responsible patient and take care of myself and ask as many questions as I need to in order to make informed decisions. I’m a retired nurse, so I’ve made diet, exercise, and select vitamins and supplements part of my treatment.

I’m honest about how this is for me, but I have to admit I think I’ve been fortunate and am still autonomous. I also have stage 1 breast cancer and it has remained in remission. Much has happened but I’ve had the good fortune to survive and help others. To me, that is critical to stay centered and take care of self.
