I was diagnosed with stage IV NSCLC adenocarcinoma on November 3, 2017 and found out I was ALK positive on November 26. Being diagnosed with lung cancer came as a total shock, especially since I am a non-smoker. My family, friends, church, and co-workers instantly came alongside me to love and support me. I now have another family, my ALK Positive “Facebook family” [Facebook group]. They are an amazing source of support and information.
I would tell anyone with a new diagnosis to make sure they have a knowledgeable doctor, get biomarker testing, and seek out a second opinion with a doctor who is an expert in their specific type of cancer. Accept help from those who care about you. Familiarize yourself with information from reputable organizations. There are many strides being made in lung cancer research. There is hope!
