The Monthly Measure will be delivered in the first week of the month. Each issue will contain articles highlighting our work and our people. Expect to see: a newsworthy event, a unique perspective on an ongoing program, a profile of one of the people making a difference, and a link to a calendar of upcoming events. This issue leads with an article jointly written our two Co-Founders, Bonnie J. Addario and Laurie Fenton Ambrose, on the initiatives tied to Women & Lung Cancer. Don’t be surprised if you see future columns from Bonnie and Laurie to provide context around hot topics in the lung cancer space.

The last few months witnessed many lung cancer community wins: draft recommendations that expand screening eligibility for those at high risk, a congressional hurdle cleared on the path to restoring $20 million in federal research funding, an incredible Voices Advocacy Summit where advocates made their voices heard, a successful Summer Jam Virtual 5K Your Way, the launch of a Sexual Health Assessment in Women with Lung Cancer survey (SHAWL), and the announcement of a partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

You can find out more about our VA partnership and the fascinating SHAWL survey in this issue of the Monthly Measure, along with a profile of lung cancer patient and physician Sydney Yolande Barned, MD, and insights into what community activities made a winner out of our virtual fundraising event.

The Weekly Breather enewsletter will continue with its patient and caregiver focus. We’ll be fine-tuning it in the future to enhance its value to our community who are information, hope, and empowerment.
