John Wells, MBA-HA is the senior specialist on GO2 for Lung Cancer’s Lung Cancer Registry team. We sat down with John to talk about his role with the Registry, his experience as a health care professional and his advice for people living with lung cancer and their loved ones.

My name is John and I live in Las Vegas, Nevada. Throughout my career, I have worked and volunteered in a variety of health care settings including hospitals, pharmacies and hospice settings. Working in hospice was a particularly unique role because I had the opportunity to speak with patients and families at their most vulnerable moments. My goal in life is to focus on helping as many people as possible, so I knew I wanted to do something in the nonprofit space. That desire led me to GO2 for Lung Cancer.

Combining patient experiences with research has also helped me approach my work from a variety of angles. As we create surveys and features for the Lung Cancer Registry—including our new International Caregiver Survey—I try to look at these advancements through the eyes of someone who would participate in the Registry. I often ask myself, “Is this convenient? Does this make sense?” The goal of the Lung Cancer Registry is to collect as much information as we can so that we can help develop new treatments and policies, and generally advance research. At the core of the Registry is always the needs of our patients and caregivers so our ability to make progress is matched by our desire to make the process as easy as possible for users.

My advice to any patient or caregiver considering joining the Lung Cancer Registry is to learn more about our previous and ongoing studies and join the Registry to get involved. Sharing your unique experience can help develop new treatments, policies and advance research.
