In the past decade, advancements in our understanding of lung cancer biology have led to many new treatment options. Immunotherapies, such as immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), and T-cell engagers (TCEs) have provided significant benefits for people with both non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and small cell lung cancer (SCLC). Dr. Greg Allen from University of San Francisco (UCSF) joined GO2’s February 2025 Lung Cancer Living Room® to explain the latest in immunotherapy advancements and ongoing research.

Speakers:

  • Greg Allen, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor, In Residence, Division of Hematology, Oncology Department of Medicine, University of San Francisco (UCSF)
  • Danielle Hicks, Chief Patient Officer, GO2 for Lung Cancer

Discussed in this episode:

  • Biomarker testing: A biomarker is something in the body that can be measured to give useful personalized information. For lung cancer, biomarkers can guide whether a specific therapy is a good choice for a particular individual. Read more about biomarkers and how to test for them.
  • Checkpoint inhibitors: A type of cancer treatment that blocks the cancer cell’s ability to hide from your immune system. This allows your immune system to better find and attack the cancer. Read more about checkpoint inhibitors.
  • T-cell engagers: A type of cancer treatment that connects T-cells (immune cells) to cancer cells. This connection helps the immune system to better respond to and attack the cancer. Read more about T-cell engagers.
  • Current immunotherapy options: Immunotherapy is approved for both NSCLC and SCLC based on the type and stage of lung cancer. Learn more about current immunotherapy treatment options
  • GO2’s resources on immunotherapy: Download free educational booklets about immunotherapy for NSCLC and SCLC, and explore frequently asked questions.
