Together, we build local excellence to confront lung cancer. GO2 for Lung Cancer’s Center of Excellence Program fosters and promotes the highest quality screening and treatment standards in lung cancer across a national network of local community hospitals. Through COEs, GO2 for Lung Cancer builds the confidence providers and patients need to engage with the community of care, thereby accessing critical resources, early detection, and treatments — the elements proven to increase survivorship for all. This is what our annual Centers of Excellence (COE) Summit is about: the power of together.

Our 2021 COE Summit highlighted key areas of strategic importance to the lung cancer community and focused on advancements in early detection, personalized treatments, community engagement, and survivorship. We heard from experts across our network about the implementation of new strategies and technologies and the successes that they are achieving. For the first time, the VA health system was included both as participants and presenters, demonstrating the need to drive excellence to the at-risk veteran population.  Additionally, a significant effort of 2021 was leveraging insights from our network to help GO2 for Lung Cancer shape our new, future COE structure, enabling us to truly capture the power of together.

2021 COE Summit by the numbers:
  • 238 COE members, including 76 from the VA, joined our virtual platform.
  • We offered 2.5 days of live content and 22 on-demand sessions.
  • Participation ranged from 84-226 attendees per live session with an average of 160 participants each.
  • 77% of attendees found on-demand presentations beneficial to their learning.
  • Approximately 33% of on-demand participants downloaded resources, with 400 resources downloaded from the library.
  • 92% of COE Summit survey respondents reported satisfied or highly satisfied with the event.
  • >90% of survey respondents reported that they will continue to interact with COE Summit recordings (both on-demand and live) after the event.
Capturing the COE Summit in their own words:
  • “I feel like every year I take away new ideas and strategies in the fight toward lung cancer and prevention.”
  • “I am new to the lung screening program and have learned so much attending the COE Summit and watching the on-demand videos.”
  • “Loved listening to the survivor’s stories. It really opens your eyes what they are experiencing while going through this.”
  • “The Living Room session with the survivors was my favorite. I was very impressed with the people who chose to be a part of this session.”
  • “Great speakers and very inspiring on the whole.”
  • “I thoroughly enjoyed every moment! Gained a lot of information on the topic of biopsies (and care after).”

As we head into 2022, the COE program will evolve, enabling us to continue to learn and grow from the network as well as to celebrate our successes. Together, we will continue to strive to not only improve survivorship and outcomes but to also make improvements in health equity and access. We are proud to call our COE network providers colleagues and friends as together, we build local excellence to confront lung cancer.
