Centers of Excellence Summit Featured Speakers: Lidia Schapira, MD, FASCO and Timothy J. Milbrandt, MS, CTTS, LMFT

We are excited to introduce two special guests who will present important information at our 2024 Lung Cancer Navigator Workshop and Centers of Excellence (COE) Summit in Chicago from Sept. 30 – Oct. 2.  

Lidia Schapira, MD, FASCO

Lidia Schapira, MD, FASCO, is a professor of medicine at Stanford University and the director of the Cancer Survivorship Program at Stanford Cancer Institute and Comprehensive Cancer Center. She is a board-certified medical oncologist with 30 years of clinical experience. Dr. Schapira is internationally renowned and has championed research and clinical initiatives to integrate mental health care in oncology to improve health outcomes for people living with and beyond cancer.  

Dr. Schapira’s clinical practice is dedicated to breast cancer. People who are diagnosed with breast cancer long have had a variety of robust supports that have increased survivorship. She will share perspectives and experiences with her patients so the lung cancer community can harness the lessons she has learned in her practice.  

Timothy J. Milbrandt, MS, CTTS, LMFT

Timothy J. Milbrandt, MS, CTTS, LMFT, is a program manager of clinical operations at the Mayo Clinic Nicotine Dependence Center (NDC). He has worked in the behavioral health field for more than 20 years in various settings. Milbrandt has specialized in tobacco treatment and education for over 10 years. He leads the delivery of professional education, including the Tobacco Treatment Specialist training program. He also supervises the counseling staff and provides patient care. 

At the conference, Milbrandt will discuss how programs can empower people to quit tobacco use by providing patient-centered care and science-based tools.  

This year’s theme is “Building Safe and Sound Intersections: Partnering to Transform Lung Cancer.”  Program topics include stigma, survivorship care, artificial intelligence, and more.
