GO2 Walk Run

Norton Thoracic Institute at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ is taking teamwork on behalf of the lung cancer community to an entirely new level.  Dignity Health’s Norton Thoracic Institute has a multidisciplinary program dedicated to catching and diagnosing early lung cancer via lung cancer screening and lung nodule clinics.  Dignity Health has been recognized by GO2 for Lung Cancer as a Center of Excellence (COE) for delivering patient-centric and highly coordinated multidisciplinary care. The lung cancer screening program at Dignity Health is affiliated with other specialties that work together to quickly offer the most effective and cutting-edge treatments when lung cancer is diagnosed.

The Dignity Health COE team leverages their passion and energy for patients in the clinic and supports the patient-community more broadly through local events, including the upcoming GO2 for Lung Cancer’s Step into Spring Phoenix virtual 5K on March 20.

We caught up with the team to learn more about their work and find out what inspires them every day.

A cohesive team on the job.

The lung cancer screening and lung nodule team at Dignity Health is truly multidisciplinary. It includes radiology, thoracic surgery, interventional pulmonology, medical oncology, cardiology, primary care, and infectious disease experts. The team meets weekly to review cases and discuss next steps for each patient. They also ensure that follow-up referrals and visits are completed, and that results are shared with the patient’s entire health care team.

The team approach ensures that they’re continually collaborating to provide the best care to their patients. When the COVID-19 pandemic was declared, the team moved quickly to implement access to telehealth across its clinics ensuring patient care continuity.

Camaraderie through community.

Norton Thoracic Institute at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center has been involved in local events supporting lung cancer and lung research for years. When GO2 for Lung Cancer approached them about sponsoring Step into Spring Phoenix, they jumped at the chance to raise awareness about lung cancer screening. The team says the event provides a great opportunity to both build camaraderie and become inspired by lung cancer survivors and their stories.

Networking with GO2 for Lung Cancer.

Finally, the team at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Norton Thoracic Institute highlighted how GO2 for Lung Cancer’s advocacy and educational conferences, the Voices Summit and COE Summits respectively, enables them to connect with patients and health care providers from across the country to learn and share ideas.
