A lung cancer diagnosis can bring on many feelings like fear, worry, and sadness. Mind Over Matter is a free 5-week virtual class that teaches tips and tools to cope with a cancer diagnosis.

What is Mind Over Matter?

Mind Over Matter was created by Inova Peterson Life with Cancer, located in Northern Virginia. After finding that Mind Over Matter helps decrease anxiety, depression, and the severity of physical symptoms related to cancer, they now offer training to make Mind Over Matter more widely available.

GO2 for Lung Cancer offers Mind Over Matter, which welcomes anyone affected by a lung cancer diagnosis, from anywhere in the United States. Whether you were diagnosed recently or years ago, or are a caregiver or other loved one, you can participate in Mind Over Matter.

How Mind Over Matter works

Mind Over Matter is a 5-week program with weekly meetings lasting 90 minutes. It’s offered several times throughout the year. Weekly topics include:

  • Understanding the mind-body connection
  • Exploring values
  • Using personal strengths to gain a new outlook
  • Pausing during times of stress
  • Making a plan to use all of the new skills

To get the greatest benefit from the program, we ask that you attend all 5 sessions.

If you’d like to learn more or join the program, please complete our interest form. A GO2 Mind Over Matter leader will set up a call with you so you can attend the next session that fits your schedule.

I learned some coping techniques that I could start using immediately.

I love that this program was not simply a list of tips and tricks but rather a structure that contained a wide variety of coping skills and a system of coping.

I have been practicing the reframe and the slow breathing exercises. They have given me peace and pulled me out of stressful situations.
