Our Advocacy Priorities

  • Increasing research for women and lung cancer
We’re urging Congress to support the Women and Lung Cancer Research and Preventive Services Act of 2023 to increase research on women and lung cancer, improve access to preventive services, and raise awareness.
  • Improving early detection
We support the Nancy Gardner Sewell Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection (MCED) Screening Coverage Act (R. 2407) which would allow the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to initiate a coverage process for MCED tests once approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
  • Increasing Lung Cancer Research Program funding
We’re urging Congress to allocate $60 million to the Lung Cancer Research Program (LCRP)— the only dedicated line of funding for research in the early detection and treatment of lung cancer for our military members and their families who are at increased risk for the disease.
  • The Cancer Drug Parity Act
The Cancer Drug Parity Act of 2023 (H.R.6301/S. 2039) would reduce out-of-pocket cost disparities for oral chemotherapy medications that have traditionally resulted in higher cost-sharing requirements compared to chemotherapy medications delivered intravenously (IV). The bill aims to build on state-level “oral parity” laws, which seek to prevent insurers from covering oral and IV cancer medications at different cost-sharing rates; thereby bringing parity to how cancer medications are covered by federally regulating group health plans.
  • The Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act
The Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act (S. 2243) would support efforts to ensure a well-trained workforce to provide pain and symptom management and care coordination to improve the lives of patients such as people living with lung cancer.
  • Increasing Access to Lung Cancer Screening Act
The Increasing Access to Lung Cancer Screening Act (H.R.4286) provides for coverage without prior authorization requirements of annual lung cancer screenings under Medicaid, Medicare, and private health insurance for individuals for whom screenings are recommended under U.S. Preventive Services Task Force guidelines. It also expands Medicaid coverage of counseling and pharmacotherapy for cessation of tobacco use to all individuals rather than only pregnant women.
  • Supporting the Congressional Lung Cancer Caucus
The Congressional Lung Cancer Caucus led by Representative Brendan Boyle (D-PA-02) has to be re-established with each new Congress. The Caucus is seeking members in both the House and the Senate to make it a stronger bipartisan and bicameral caucus. Please ask your Representative and Senators to join to make this a stronger bipartisan and bicameral caucus!
